Draw a model to show how to write 3 3/6 as an improper fraction.  Explain how your model works.

*check model

21/6

My model shows 3 3/6 because it shows three wholes divided into 6 parts and then a fourth whole divided into 6 parts. The first three wholes are totally shaded and the fourth whole has 3 of 6 parts shaded. This helped me to write 3 3/6 as an improper fraction because it showed that there were 21 sixths shaded.

So, the improper fraction is 21/6.
