Dolphins are mammals that live in the ocean. Mammals are different than fish, reptiles or birds. As a mammal, dolphins breathe oxygen, even though they live in water. Because they are mammals, a dolphin mother gives birth to a live baby, unlike reptiles and birds who lay eggs. A dolphin mother also feeds her baby milk like other mammals.

When I got home from school after a long boring day, I took out the peanut butter, jelly, and bread.  After taking the lid off of the jars, I spread the peanut butter on one side of the bread and the jelly on the other, and then I put the two pieces of bread together.  After that, I enjoyed it while watching “Cops” on the TV.  I swear, that was the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ever ate.

Most people have had red pizza, or pizza covered with red sauce, but have you ever had white pizza?  White pizza is made in almost the same way as red pizza: the dough rises and is rolled out, toppings are applied, and it is cooked in an oven—but the key difference is that white pizza does not have any tomato sauce on it.  Instead, a white pizza may have olive oil or no sauce at all.  I like white pizza more than red pizza because you can really taste the ingredients.  Adding some fresh tomatoes to a white pizza will give it that tomato flavor without the completely overwhelming taste of the red sauce that covers most pizzas.  If you have not had a white pizza, I recommend that you order or make one today.

African American track star Jesse Owens made breaking records look easy. As a student at The Ohio State University in 1935, he set a world record in the long jump. That record stood for twenty-five years. At the 1936 Olympic Games, he won four gold medals and broke several more records. But it took forty years for Owens's Olympic victories to receive the attention they deserved. When he returned to the U.S., he didn't meet with the president, unlike most champions. What text structure is being used and explain why.

The first hair dryer was invented in 1888 by a hairstylist named Alexandre Godefroy. His invention had to be hooked up to a heater. It sent heat through a pipe to a "hat" on the person's head. Before Godefroy's invention, there was no easy way to dry hair. People had to sit next to a stove or fireplace or out in the sun. They didn't wash their hair often. After Godefroy's invention, people could dry their hair faster. By the early 1920s, hairstyles and hair-washing habits were changing. Godefroy's invention was a first step in making it easier to dry and style hair.

Edouard de Laboulaye, a French writer and law professor, admired the freedoms enjoyed in the United States. He supported Abraham Lincoln's freeing of slaves during the Civil War. After the war, in 1865, he suggested that France present a statue to the U.S. The statue was meant to honor Lincoln and American democracy. At that time, the French people had little say in their government. Laboulaye hoped the statue would encourage the French to demand more freedom at home. Work began on the project in 1875. Ten years later, the statue, known as the Statue of Liberty, finally arrived in New York.

It explains why the Statue of Liberty was created and who thought of the idea.

The Fox and the Stork

There once was a clever fox who loved playing tricks. He invited his friend the stork over for dinner one day. When dinner was served, the poor bird saw that the meal was soup served in a flat dish. Try as she might, the stork could not drink the soup with her long, thin beak.

"I'm sorry you aren't enjoying the dinner," the fox said, laughing to himself over his trick.

"Oh, it's no problem at all," the stork said, acting very polite. "You must join me for dinner next time."

Soon the stork invited the fox to her house for dinner. The fox had worked hard all day and was very hungry. But when the stork brought out the food, the fox got a surprise. The dinner was served in tall, narrow jars. With her long beak, the stork had no trouble gobbling up the tasty food. The fox's mouth did not fit in the jar, so he went home hungry.
