5 examples of WPV
What is:
o Threatening behavior – shaking fists, destroying property, vandalism, sabotage, theft, throwing objects.
o Verbal or written threats - expression of intent to inflict harm.
o Harassment - behavior that demeans, embarrasses, humiliates, annoys, alarms or verbally abuses a person and that is known or would be expected to be unwelcome. Included are words, gestures, pranks, arguments, psychological trauma, rumors, intimidation, bullying, or other inappropriate activities.
o Verbal abuse - swearing, insults or condescending language.
o Physical attacks - hitting, shoving, pushing or kicking. Extremes include rape, arson and murder.
o Bullying - uninvited physical contact; “sarcastic jokes” and “teasing” used as insult delivery systems; withering e-mail flames; status slaps intended to humiliate their victims; rude interruptions; two-faced attacks; dirty looks

4 types of Horizontal Violence
What are:
Nonverbal behavior: such as ignoring a peer, eye rolling
Verbal behavior: sarcastic, snide, rude or demeaning comments to them or talking behind their back, shouting or using condescending or patronizing tone
Sabotage: deliberately setting another nurse up for failure
Broken confidence: gossiping, sharing information that is meant to be private
Actions/inactions: allocating unrealistic workloads, refusing assistance, shoving someone or slamming things, deliberately withholding information
Passive aggressive behavior: backstabbing, complaining to others about a person but not speak to that person directly, deliberately setting someone up for failure

Type I – The aggressor has no legitimate business relationship to the workplace and usually enters the affected workplace to commit a robbery or other criminal act such as robbery.
