Vocabulary
100

What are the 4 basic plant parts & their function (job)?

roots- soaks up nutrients from the soil & keeps the plant in the ground

stem- holds up the plant & transports nutrients

flower- attracts pollinators

leaves- makes food for the plant

100

What is the purpose of adaptations?

To help an organism to survive in its environment.

100

grass >grasshopper>bird>snake>hawk>bacteria

What is giving energy to the grass?

The sun. (light energy)

100

What are the 3 different types of consumers?

Define each one & give an example.

Herbivore- only eats plants (rabbit)

Omnivore- eats plants & animals (bird)

Carnivore- only eats other animals (snake)

200

Define pollinators.

insects such as bees

200

List the two types of adaptations and an example.

Behavioral- how an animals behaves or acts

Ex. hibernation, migration, etc.

Physical- how an animal is made

Ex. fur, wings, etc.

200

grass >grasshopper>bird>snake>hawk>bacteria

What happens if the bird is taken out of the food chain?

The amount of grasshoppers will increase & the amount of snakes will decrease.

200

What is a producer?

A living thing that makes it's own food through photosynthesis.

300

What is photosynthesis & how does it help the plant?

A process in which plants make food to grow.

300

Name That Adaptation!!!

An elephant's trunk

Physical

300

Create a simple food chain with 1 producer, 3 consumers, and 1 decomposer.

Answers may vary.

300

What are decomposers? Give examples.

They consume (eat) dead plants & animals which allows them to decompose or break them down.

Ex. fungi, bacteria, mushrooms

400

What 3 things are needed for plants to complete photosynthesis?

carbon dioxide, sunlight, & water

400

Name That Adaptation!!!

A skunk's spray

Physical

400

grass >grasshopper>bird>snake>hawk>bacteria

1. Describe how energy is transferred in the above food chain.

2. List the type of animal in the food chain. (producer, type of consumer, decomposer)

The sun gets energy from the grass, which gives energy to the grasshopper. The grasshopper gives energy to the bird, the bird to the snake, and the snake to the hawk. The bacteria breaks down & decomposes the hawk and the cycle begins again.

grass (p), grasshopper (c/h), bird(c/o), snake (c/c), hawk (c,c), bacteria (d)

400

What is the chemical equations for carbon dioxide?

CO

500

What is a byproduct of photosynthesis?

oxygen & glucose (sugar)

500

Name That Adaptation!!!

A monkey climbing a tree.

Behavioral

500

What is the difference between a food chain & a food web?

A food web shows many different food chains within an ecosystem. A food chain is a simple link.

500

What is the chemical equation for water?

H2O
