What is the titanic? What made it so signifigant/memorable?

The titanic was a luxury British ocean liner ( kind of like a cruise). Being the most impressive and largest ship at the time, it was coined as the "unsinkable ship". That is until April 14th, 1912 when the Titanic hit an iceberg during her maiden voyage, which led to it breaking in half and capsizing (sinking). This event led to over 1,500 deaths of all ages and social classes.
