100

The variable that is deliberately manipulated in an investigation.

What is the independent variable?

100
A description that includes a number and a unit.
What is a measurement?
100
Uses models to imitate the function, behavior, or process of whatever the models represent.
What is a simulation?
100
The variable that changes as a result of the manipulated variable in an experiment.
What is the dependent variable?
100
The abbreviation for 1,000.
What is kilo?
200
The axis on which the dependent variable is graphed.
What is the Y- axis?
200
A short way of representing very large numbers or very small numbers.
What is scientific notation?
200
A representation of how parts of a system are related or organized.
What is a conceptual model?
200
A representation of an object or a process that allows scientists to study something in greater detail.
What is a model?
200
A disadvantage of mathematical models.
What is that the mathematical models can be oversimplified.
300
Line used to show the general relationship between two variables in a graph.
What is the line of best fit?
300
Was developed to help scientists compare measurements made by different people in different locations using different tools
What is the International System of Units (Systeme International), or SI Units?
300
Represents the physical structure of an object or system.
What is a physical model?
300
SI Unit for temperature.
What is Kelvin?
300
Its data are usually found in the first column of a data table.
What is the independent variable?
400
A graph in which the relationship between the independent variable and dependent variable can be shown with a straight line.
What is a linear graph?
400
A description of how close a measurement is to the true value of the quantity measured.
What is accuracy?
400
Three types of mathematical models.
What are (any three) equations, graphs, chemical formulas, and equations?
400
Kind of model allows a scientist to understand a large object by studying the object at a smaller size.
What is a scale model?
400
The unit scientists use to measure mass.
What are kilograms?
500
The relationship in which the value of one variable decreases as the other increases.
What is an inverse relationship?
500
The exactness of a measurement.
What is precision?
500
A disadvantage of a physical model.
What is physical models are not always like the real thing?
500
Two types of physical models.
What are scale models and life-size models?
500
One ways simulations are used.
What is to test designs in a controlled environment or to test designs in a safer, less expensive way?
