What is an independent variable?

The variable that is purposely changed by the scientist. This is the variable we are testing the effect of.
100

How many hours are there in a day?

24 hours

100

Name the 3 states of matter.

Solid, Liquid and Gas

100

What is a pattern?

Something we observe to be similar over and over again.

200

What is a dependent variable?

The variable the scientist focuses his or her observations on to see the effect of the independent variable

200

Why can't we see stars during the daytime?

The sun is the only star we see during the daytime due to its brightness. Additionally, the sun is closer to Earth

200

These particles only vibrates in place and move very slowly because they are locked together.

Solid particles

200

Define orbit. How long does it take the earth to orbit the sun?

The path the earth follows around the sun. It takes the earth 1 year to orbit the sun.

300

What are constants?

What stays the same in an experiment. There can be multiple constants.
300

If I see the moon now, how long will it take me to see the moon again?

24 hrs

300
These particles roam freely and move the fastest

Gas particles

300

Define gravity

The pull between earth and other objects, which acts without touching.

What is the IV in the question below?

How does the number of practice free throw shots affect the number of free throws made?

The number of practice free throw shots

400

If I see the sun now, how long will it take me to see the moon?

12 hours

400

These particles slide past one another and their shape changes.

Liquid particles

400

How many stars are there in our Solar System?

1 billion

What is the IV, DV and Constant in the question below?

Esther did an experiment to test how the amount of salt affects the amount of time it takes for the water to boil.  She used three different pots and put 500 mL of water into each pot.  She put 20 g of salt into Pot 1, 40 g of salt into pot 2, and 60 g of salt into pot 3.  She used the same type pot and the same type of salt.  All of the water came from the same sink.  Nina measured the amount of time it took for the water to boil in minutes.

IV= Amount of Salt

DV= Time to boil water

Constant= Type of pot, type of salt, type of water

What are yearly start patterns caused by? Why don't se see the same constellations each night?

Yearly star patterns are caused by the earth's orbit around the sun. The constellations we see throughout the year change because of where the earth is in its orbit around the sun.

500

Define volume

The amount of space a object takes up
