What are the three types of organisms in an ecosystem called?

Producers

Consumers

Decomposers

1

What percentage of the Earth's water is salt water?

97%

1

What is rain an example of? (Precipitation, Condensation or Evaporation)

Precipitation

1

Why does the moon change phases?

It rotates around the Earth and the part we see lit up by the sun changes.

1

If you have 200g of water, and add 30g of sugar to it, how much will your new mixture weigh?

230g

2

In this food chain, where does the energy from the tuna go to?

The Shark

2

Where is most of the freshwater located on Earth?

Glaciers or Ice Bergs (around 68%!)

2

What are clouds made out of?

Tiny water droplets that have evaporated and are condensed in the atmosphere.

2

What season has the longest days? Why? YOU MUST ANSWER BOTH QUESTIONS TO GET POINTS

Summer, because the sun rises higher in the sky than in other seasons.

2

True of False: Matter cannot be created or destroyed.

True

3

Why are decomposers important for an ecosystem?

Because they break down dead or decaying organisms. They are like nature's clean up crew!

3

Why would a cup of saltwater weigh more than a cup of fresh water? They are both filled to the same line, and look the same.

Because the salt dissolved in water still has weight even though you cannot see it.

3

The sun is beating down on a field that has been watered by a farmer. You see steam rising. What is this process called?

Evaporation

3

Can you see all the constellations in the night sky at one time? Why or why not? YOU MUST ANSWER BOTH QUESTIONS TO GET POINTS

No, because the Earth rotates around the sun, and you can only see the ones that the Earth is pointed towards at night.

3

You have some dirty old pennies and put them into a mixture of vinegar and salt to clean them. After you take them out they are clean! Will the mixture weigh more or less after the pennies have been cleaned? Why?

The mixture will weigh more because the matter from the dirty pennies is now included in the mix.

4

Where do producers get most of their energy from?

The Sun

4

How come a plant with roots that go deep into the ground need less watering than a plant whose roots are shallow?

Because the plant with deep roots can get water from an aquifer.

4

List 3 methods of precipitation you can see.

Rain, Hail, Snow, or Sleet

4

You take a picture of yourself at 10:00 A.M on a day in winter and another day in summer. Which picture will have the longer shadow and why.

Winter, because the sun won't be as high in the sky during that time.

4
What can you add to something to make it turn from a liquid into a gas.

Heat 🔥

5

Why did the sun being covered by dust cause the dinosaurs to go extinct? Think about how the food web was affected.

Because the sun was covered by dust. Plants weren't able to grow which meant herbivores didn't have food. No herbivores means no carnivores.

5

List 2 ways you can help conserve Earth's fresh water.

Take shorter showers, turn off the water when brushing your teeth, don't water your lawn as much, put plants in your garden that don't take as much water, fix leaks in hoses or pipes, only wash dishes when the dishwasher is full, water during colder parts of the day.

5

You take an ice-cold DIET PEPSI from the fridge and put it next to you. You notice little water droplets forming on the outside of the can. What is this process called?

Condensation

5

Which has stronger gravity: The Moon or Earth? Why?

The Earth because it is larger than the moon. The bigger a planet or object is, the stronger the gravity on it is.

5

True or false: You are made up of matter.

True
