During the 1830s, the United States governments kicked more than 60,000 American Indians off of their land and made them march nearly 1,300miles west. This forced relocation is known as the Trail of Tears. In 1803,more land was added to America through the Louisiana Purchase. Many Americans saw this new land as an opportunity to take over Indian territory. This greediness got worse in 1828, when gold was discovered on Indian land. Two years later, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act, which forced Indian tribes to give their land to the US government.During this removal, the Indians were treated terribly. The journey west was tough, and many Indians died from disease, starvation, and exposure to the elements like snow and rain. Over one-third of the Cherokee Indians who were forced on the Trail of Tears ended up dying. Today, the Trail of Tears is regarded as one of the cruelest periods in American history.

How were American Indians treated during the Trail of Tears?  State the E in R.A.C.E.

This shows that the government did not take care of the Indians after they made them leave their homes.
