Name the three states of matter

solid, liquid, gas

100

What is erosion

the breaking down of sediment and moving of it

100

What is the instrument that measures wind speed?

anemometer

100

Name 2 renewable resources

water, wind, sunlight, plants,

100

What is a producer?

Something that makes its own food

200

What is an atom

the building blocks of life

200

Name the steps in the water cycle

precipitation, evaporation,  condensation,

200

Wind always flows from?

High pressure to low pressure

200

Name 2 nonrenewable resources

rocks, dirt, soil, metals, minerals,

200
Give an example of a primary consumer

rabbit, grasshopper, cow, mouse, vole, birds, deer, elk,

300

Name a chemical property of a substance

reaction with acid

300
What is a topographic map

a map that shows the height changes of the land

300

What is the difference between weather and climate

climate is the long term average weather of an area. Weather is the specific, moment to moment state of the atmosphere.

300

What happens when we use too much of a natural resource

renewable resources can become nonrenewable, nonrenewable resources can disappear.
300

How do plants make their own food?

through photosynthesis

400

How many atoms does an element contain

just one type

400

Which liquid dissolves more substances than any other?

water

400

Why is earth's temperature rising?

the burning of fossil fuels is trapping gasses in the atmosphere creating a greenhouse effect that traps heat instead of letting it reflect back into space.

400

Explain the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources

renewable resources can be replenished in our lifetime. nonrenewable resources cannot be replaced in a short amount of time.

400

What is a data transect?

An area that is roped or taped off which ecologist study instead of a whole area

500

Explain each of the three states of matter kinetic energy

gas- lots of energy, moving really fast, boucning, hardly interacting

liquid- some interaction, flowy, medium energy

solid- vibrating, very close, not tons of energy

500

Explain how a dead zone is formed

Too much use of fertilizer, this puts extra nutrients in the water through runoff. The extra nutrients causes the phytoplankton to grow, but then they die quickly. Then, the number of decomposers go up and they use a lot of oxygen leading to not enough oxygen in the water for life to survive.
500

explain how ocean currents work.

cold, salty water is more dense so it sinks at the poles. The water then travels towards the equator. It looses salt and gains temperature so it starts rising. water, less salty water is less dense so it rises. It travels towards the poles.

500

What is a natural resource

Something found naturally on earth that humans use

500

Describe what effect an invasive species can have on a ecosystem

negative impact. disrupt the food chain, use too many resources, hurt biodiversity and crowd out native plants.
