When there's an accident or unsafe area during a lab activity, what should be the first thing you do?
Notify the teacher (duh)

List the 6 parts of the Scientific Method in the correct order.
1. State the questions. 2. Research Topic. 3. Form Hypothesis 4. Test Hypothesis with Experiment 5. Collect and Analyze Results 6. Form Conclusion

What is potential energy? What is kinetic energy?
Potential energy- stored energy, has the potential to do something. Kinetic energy- energy of movement
100
What are the 6 types of simple machines? Give an example for each.
lever inclined plane wedge wheel and axle pulley screw
100
Describe how the molecules move and how they are arranged for a solid, liquid and gas.
solid molecules- vibrate, regular arrangement, tightly packed liquid molecules- close together but random arrangement, slide past each other. gas molecules- far apart, random arrangement, move very fast
200
What is a safety equipment you should use to protect your eyes during an experiment?
protect eyes with goggles
200
What is the variable that you purposely change in the experiment?
Independent Variable
200
What are the two factors that affect gravitational potential energy of an object?
1. height above ground. higher means more PE 2. mass of the object. more mass means more PE
200
What type of simple machine redirects your effort? Give an example.
Pulley, curtains, pull down on rope, curtains go up
200
Matter is something that has mass and volume. What is mass and volume?
Mass- amount of material in an object volume- amount of space an object takes up
300
What can you use to protect your clothes from spills during an experiment?
apron
300
What is the group that has nothing done to it called in an experiment?
A control group is a group in the experiment that you compare with the experiment group.
300
What are the two factors that affect the kinetic energy in an object?
1. speed of an object. more speed means more KE 2. mass of an object. more mass means more KE
300
Why is walking to the store carrying a laundry basket in your arms not considered work?
Work is push or pull of an object in the same direction as the force. You are using an upward force to carry the basket, but the basket is moving in a forward direction. Two different directions which means its not work.
300
Name the phase changes that involve molecules moving faster. Name the phase changes that involve molecules moving slower.
molecules moving faster- melting, boiling, evaporation, sublimation molecules moving slower- deposition, condensation, freezing
400
If an area becomes unsafe due to broken glass, what equipment can you use to make that area safe?
broom dustpan
400
What is the format to use in order to write a testable question for an investigation?
What is the effect of (independent variable) on the (dependent variable)? Ex. What is the effect of the length of the effort arm of a lever on the effort used to balance the lever?
400
When you are riding a bike down a hill, what part of the hill will you have the most Kinetic energy? Why? a. just started moving at the top of the hill b. moving in the middle of the hill c. just before the bottom of the hill
c. just before the bottom of the hill because that is when you have the most speed. more speed = more KE.
400
How can you decrease and increase the friction on the floor?
increase friction- make floor rougher decrease friction- make floor smoother
400
Four different liquids are combined. Eventually they will separate into 4 layers. How can you determine the order of the 4 layers?
Based on the liquids density. Most dense will on bottom, least dense on top.
500
If for some reason Mr. Han lets you use fire to heat up a test tube full of chemicals, why do you not want the test tube be covered with a cap?
heating chemicals might create gas, more pressure build up and lead to explosion.
500
What is the format to use in order to write a testable hypothesis?
If _______________ then ______________ because______________.
500
What does the term renewable and non renewable energy resources mean? Give 2 examples of renewable energy resources. Give 2 examples of non renewable energy resources.
Renewable energy resources- energy that can be replenish quickly ex. solar energy, wind power Non renewable energy resources- can not replenish fast enough to meet the rate of people using it. ex. fossil fuel such as coal, nuclear energy
500
This is actually an Energy Question What is the law of conservation of energy? How is a battery powered radio an example of the law of conservation of energy?
Energy can not be created or destroyed, it turns from one form to another. chemical energy (battery) --> electrical energy ----> motion energy (sound) and thermal energy

Why would a small marble be more dense than a large beach ball? Use terms such as density, mass and volume in your explanation.
the small marble has less volume but has more mass packed in it to result in a higher density than the beach ball which takes up a larger volume but has very little mass.
