Why do you use lines in art?
Lines create borders, can be used to add texture, to make a shape, and too shade things.
What does value do to a piece of art?
Artists use value to create a realistic affect. It makes things look 3D, or like there is a background and foreground
What is shape?
A 2D area enclosed on all sides with lines.
What is texture?
Texture is added to an image to create a realistic affect? By seeing it you know what it would feel like
Is form 1 dimensional, 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional ?

White, mid-tone, and black

What is hatching, what is cross hatching?
Hatching - using lines that all go in the same direction.
Cross hatching- using lines that cross each other.
How would you consider space when starting a new art piece?
Planning out where everything will go on the page, and using the space of the page intentionally
What are the 2 types of line? What do they mean?
Geometric line, when lines are strict and straight. Powerful lines.
Expressive line, when lines are soft, curled, or wiggly.
What is foreground?
How does it relate to the background?
The foreground is what would be closest to us if it was a 3d image, and the background is what would be farthest away.
What kind of shapes would you use in abstract art?
Trick question! You can use any shapes.

Smooth, Pointy, Moist, or Shiny ?

Implied form and literal form.
Implied form is a 3d image drawn on a 2d paper.
Literal form is a sculpture or 3d piece of art

Stippling

Organic shape, a shape that is man made, unnatural, usually made of soft or weird lines
Geometric shape, the shapes you learn in school. Usually straight lines.
What are the types of texture?
Implied texture, abstract texture, invented texture, and actual texture.

Geometric and organic

How does light affect how you shade?
Light casts predictable shadows. If the light is coming from one side, the shadows (darkest value) will be on the other
