In a food web, what are the organisms that make their own food through photosynthesis called?  Give an example.

Producers

Any plant

Is a hurricane a fast or slow change?

fast

200

What is a non-native species?

A plant or animal that is brought into a ecosystem that had not previously been there.

200

How much do you like science?

  a lot

What two things are produced by Photosynthesis?

Sugar (Glucose) and Oxygen

Define consumer.  Name a consumer in a forest ecosystem.

An consumer is an organism that can not make their own food.  Rabbits, deer, foxes, owls, etc are all examples in a forest ecosystem.

300

What is one way that an organism such as a locust could alter their environment?

They could eat all the green plants and there would be one left in the ecosystem.

300

Name a non-native species that Mrs. Rydewski studied in her class when she was your age?

Zebra mussels

300

Is there a subject better than science?

No

400

What 3 things are used during cellular respiration?

Sugar and oxygen

400

What role does a decomposer play in an ecosystem?

Decomposers break down waste and dead organisms. In doing so, they return nutrients back into the soil.

400

What is one way that humans can alter an ecosystem?

answers will vary

400

How are did zebra mussels cause problems in the great lakes?

They spread very quickly and ate all the food and took the space that other animals in the lakes needed to live.

400

Should you think about becoming a scientist in the future.

Yes. Everyone should

500

What three things are produced by cellular respiration?

Carbon dioxide, water and energy

What is the difference between a food chain and a food web.  Give an example of each.

A food chain is steps by which energy moves through an ecosystem. This could be a fox eating a rabbit, which ate grass, which got its energy from the sun.

A food web contains many food chains into one picture. And example is a fox, could eat a rabbit or a mole.  The rabbit could eat grass or carrots, etc.

500

Give an example of a way that a cactus has adapted to live in a dry environment?  What would happen is an organism does not adapt?

A cactus can store water in dry conditions.  If organisms can't adapt then can die.

500

What is conservation?

Conservation is an attempt to protect an environment from harmful changes.
