The Ear
The cranial nerve connecting the inner ear with the brain and transmitting impulses concerned with hearing.
What is the auditory nerve?
The ability to distinguish similar and different melodies.
What is tonal and rhythm discrimination?
The property of a sound and especially a musical tone that is determined by the frequency of the waves producing it : highness or lowness of sound
What is pitch?
An ordered recurrent alternation of strong and weak elements in the flow of sound and silence in speech
What is rhythm?
Sound vibrations first hit the “this”, which causes the three small bones in the middle ear to vibrate.
What is the ear drum?
a sound of definite pitch and vibration
What is tone?
A rhythmic succession of single tones organized as an aesthetic whole
What is melody?
The rhythmic and intonational aspect of language
What is prosody?
auditory pathway can be measured by EEG by tracking electrical signals in the brain
What are auditory evoked potentials?
a periodic motion of the particles (as when a stretched cord produces musical tones or molecules in the air transmit sounds to the ear)
What is vibration?
The art of arranging sounds in time through the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre
What is music?
Outer most layer of the brain. Processed large amounts of information. Like a supercomputer, this part of the brain processes sounds to meaning.
What is the cerebral cortex?
The number of neurons firing
What is amplitude?
Connection of the ear to the brain to process sound
What is the auditory process?
the intensification and enriching of a musical tone by supplementary vibration
What is resonance?
Transfers auditory information from the inner ear to the brain to the cerebral cortex
What is the cochlear nerve system?
The last stop that sounds waves make. The sound waves are converted into the electrical impulses which the auditory nerve delivers to your brain as sound.
What is the inner ear?
Vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person’s or animal’s ear.
