You notice that supplies are running low during your shift. Before the store completely runs out, you should take appropriate action.

Reliability, respect, responsibility, appropriate behavior, and being prepared are all examples of this.
What is professionalism?
You already know how to complete a task, but you notice a new student struggling. You explain the procedure and help them improve without simply taking over.
What is leadership/coaching?
You are working in Greyson’s Brewz and notice another student employee has their phone out and is scrolling through social media instead of paying attention to customers or completing their responsibilities. Which employability skill is this student failing to demonstrate? What should you do as a fellow employee?
They are not demonstrating Professionalism/Responsibility and Initiative/Self-Direction. A student should respectfully remind the coworker to put the phone away and get back to work. If the behavior continues or is serious, they should notify the teacher/manager rather than starting an argument.

What is during independent work time, check in with Mrs. Charvet, Kim, or a manager, complete a Minga, and leave your phone behind.
Changing your approach when the store is busy, your role changes, or an unexpected problem happens.

A customer is upset because their drink is taking longer than expected. Your first responsibility is to acknowledge the customer and respond respectfully.

The overall impression a customer has based on their interactions with a business.
What is the customer experience?
You know the opening procedure, but instead of simply completing it, you identify a step that regularly causes confusion and recommend an improvement.
What is process improvement?
The teacher leaves the store for a few minutes. As soon as the teacher is gone, several students stop working, start talking, sit around, and ignore customers waiting to be helped. When the teacher returns, everyone immediately starts working again.

A returning employee says, “I already know how to do this.” The expectation for advanced students is to move beyond doing the task and demonstrate this.

You are working in the coffee shop and notice another student employee taking money from the cash drawer and putting it in their pocket. They look at you and say, “Don't worry about it. Nobody will know.”
You should not ignore it, participate, or confront the student aggressively. Notify the teacher/supervisor privately and report exactly what you observed. This demonstrates Professionalism/Responsibility, Accountability, and ethical workplace behavior.

When you finish your assigned task and no one has given you another job, the best next step is this.
What is use initiative to find something productive to do or ask the manager what needs to be done next?
Communicating clearly and respectfully with customers and coworkers while also listening to understand.
A teammate tells you an order needs to be remade. You repeat the information back to make sure you understand correctly.

During a busy shift, you recognize that the workflow is slowing down. You analyze the problem and suggest a change that could help the team work more efficiently.
What is critical thinking and problem solving?
A student tells you they are leaving the classroom to go to the restroom. Twenty minutes later, you happen to see the student in another part of the school visiting friends. They return and act like nothing happened.
You should not spread rumors, confront the student publicly, or take the situation into your own hands. Let the teacher know privately what you observed. This involves Professionalism/Responsibility, Accountability, and making appropriate decisions when something doesn't seem right.

Seeing what needs to be done and taking appropriate action without always waiting to be told.

You see a spill on the floor. Even though it is not your assigned cleaning job, you take appropriate action so no one gets hurt.

A sequence of education, training, and work experiences that can lead toward a future career.
What is a career pathway?
An experienced employee can perform every job in the store. To demonstrate the highest level of growth, they should also be able to evaluate performance, coach others, and do this.
What is identify and improve store systems or processes?
You notice an experienced student employee skipping an important cleaning/sanitation step because the store is busy. They tell you, “I've been doing this for two years. It's fine. We don't have time.”
What should you do, and which employability skills are involved?
The student should not simply ignore the unsafe practice because the employee is experienced. They should respectfully address the concern and involve the teacher/supervisor if necessary.
