How does Sorbitol work?
draws water into your large intestine through osmosis to soften stool and help you have a bowel movement
When not to give Ondansetron
Sensitivity, hypokalemia (electrolyte imbalance-low concentration of potassium in the blood)
Hypomagnesemia (low magnesium in the blood) and cardiac arrhythmias
Albuterol
Adult 2.5-5mg every 20 mins every 1-4 hours
Peds 2.5mg in 25ml NS
Opioid antagonists (turns off)
When to give Albuterol
Asthma, bronchitis with bronchospasm, COPD
How does Acetaminophen work?
Inhibits pain receptors in the brain
When not to give Albuterol
Angioedema (swelling of lips, mucous membrane or tissue under the surface; lips, eyes, mouth, throat, hands and feet)

Presence of nausea and vomiting
How does Albuterol work?
Binds and stimulates B2 receptors, resulting in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle
When not to give Sorbitol
Anuria ( lack of urine production), severe dehydration, GI obstruction, Ischemic bowel ( not enough blood flow to the intestines)

How does Ondansetron work?
Prevents/reduces Nausea and vomiting by binding and blocking a receptor for the brain chemical serotonin

Toxic ingestion/ for poisons we can't throw up
How does Naloxone work?
Binds the opioid receptor and blocks the effects of narcotics
When to avoid Acetaminophen
Patient has liver disease; patients liver cannot process meds because their liver is already compromised, their liver may not be able to break down acetaminophen; causing further damage to an already weakened liver

Adult 0.4-2mg intranasally
Peds 5 years and older 2mg
Younger than 5 years 0.1mg/kg
