What do you understand about 'pre-natal development' and ‘embryo’ ?

Prenatal development- A foetus remains in the mother’s womb for about nine months. This is called the prenatal period  ( or pregnancy) which begins with conception and ends with birth.

Pregnancy can be divided into three trimesters:- 1st trimester of pregnancy (0 to 3 months in the uterus), 2nd trimester of pregnancy ( 3 to 6 months in the uterus ) , 3rd trimester of pregnancy ( 6 to 9 months in the uterus ).

   

Embryo - The zygote attaches to the wall of the uterus, further growth and development makes it an embryo.  The embryo;s life support system is the amniotic fluid, placenta and umbilical cord. Heart and lungs are formed , Circulatory system starts functioning. Reproductive organs develop. The embryo starts looking human

What do you think are the reasons for the breakdown of the joint family system in our society? Give any 3 reasons.  

  1. Industrialization - Earlier people did agriculture which encouraged the joint family . When income from agriculture was not enough, people moved to cities in search of better jobs. As the rural youth got better education they moved to cities for better paid jobs.  This migration led to the breakdown of the traditional joint family.


  1. Large size- When the size of the joint family became unmanageable, some sons moved out of the joint family and started living in nuclear families. 


  1. Education and employment of women- As women got better educated, they started taking up jobs outside the home. They became more confident and enterprising. This also led to the breakdown of the joint family
