7.SP.2 Drawing Inferences
The RBIs (Runs Batted In) for 6 players from the 2014 Ford Thunderbirds and Keithley Kolts are shown. Use the data to answer the following question. Ford Thunderbirds: 18, 9, 25, 44, 32, 20 Keithley Kolts: 5, 21, 28, 40, 21, 19 Find the range of each set of data (for each team)? (Range is largest minus smallest data for each set).
What is ... Ford Thunderbirds' range is 35. Keithley Kolts' range is 35.
I flip a coin 60 times. I flipped heads 25 times and tails 35 times. a) What is the experimental probability of flipping heads? b) What is the theoretical probability of flipping heads?
What is ... a) 5/12 experimental is what actually happened b) 1/2Theoretical is what should happen
Determine if the pair of compound events is INDEPENDENT or DEPENDENT. Choosing a blue M&M from a bag, eating it, then choosing another blue M&M.
What is DEPENDENT? It depends on what you pick first what options are left for the 2nd event.
This sample is BIASED or UNBIASED. Explain your choice. Asking NMS 7th graders about their favorite flavor of ice cream by choosing names from a box containing the names of all of NMS 7th grade students.
What is unbiased, because every 7th grade student has an equal chance of being selected.
How do you find the mean?
Add up all the data and then divide by how many data there are.
Rolling a standard die then spinning a spinner with four equal sections numbered 1 through 4.
What is INDEPENDENT? Regardless what you roll, it won't affect the spinner.
How do you find Mode?
What ever data happens the most.
In a bag of money, there are 8 $1 bills, 6 $5 bills, 4 $10 bills, and 2 $20 bills. Find the probability of the following outcome. Write your answer as a fraction and percent. P($20 then $5 bill) = __________
What is 3/100 or 3%?
2/20 x 6/20 = 12/400 = 3/100
Kohls sends a customer satisfaction survey to a randomly selected sample of their Kohls Rewards customers. Is this survey likely to be representative of all Kohls customers?
What is the sample is not representative of all customers, because they only surveyed rewards customers who are probably satisfied with Kohls, rather than just everyone that shops at Kohls.
How do you find median?
If there are two middle numbers, take the mean of those two numbers.
In a bag of money, there are 8 $1 bills, 6 $5 bills, 4 $10 bills, and 2 $20 bills. Find the probability of the following outcome. Write your answer as a fraction and percent. P($1 or $10) = __________
What is 3/5 or 60%?
8 + 4 = 12 out of 20 chances. 12/20 = 3/5
In April of 2013, Arbitron/Edison did a study on the Average Number of Facebook Friends, by Age Group. Given the following results, what inferences can you make about a person's age and the average number of Facebook friends he or she has? 12+: 303 35-44: 209 12-17: 506 45-54: 183 18-24: 510 55-64: 113 25-34: 328 65+: 115
What is ... 1) On average, people between the ages of 18-24 have the most Facebook friends. 2.) On average, people between the ages of 55-64 have the least amount of Facebook friends. 3.) The number of Facebook friends a person has drops dramatically when a person reaches the age of 35. 4.) The average number of Facebook friends is very close for the age groups of 12-17 and 18-24. The same is true for the age groups 55-64 and 65+.
The RBIs (Runs Batted In) for 6 players from the 2014 Ford Thunderbirds and Keithley Kolts are shown. Use the data to answer the following question. Ford Thunderbirds: 18, 9, 25, 44, 32, 20 Find the mean, median (middle number when in order), and mode (data that happens the most) for each team's data.
What is ... Ford: mean = 24.67; median = 22.5; mode = no mode
Given the following outcome, determine if it is impossible, less likely, equally likely, more likely, or certain. Then state the probability as a number. Rolling a number less than 7 on a number cube.
What is CERTAIN?!! ; 1
Given a spinner with six equal sections numbered 1 - 6, find the simple probabilities of each event. Write your answers as fractions and percents. Round to the nearest hundredth. P(composite number) = __________ (composite means the oppostie of prime)
What is 1/3 or 33.33%
Use a tree diagram or list to show the sample space and total outcomes for the following compound events. Then answer the probability questions. Write your answers as a fraction and percent. Flipping a coin and rolling a die Total Outcomes = __________ P(Tails, 4) = __________ P(Heads, Odd) = __________
What is ... Total Outcomes = 12 P(Tails, 4) = 1/12 or 8.33% P(Heads, Odd) = 1/4 or 25%
