Reading Strategies
Numbering paragraphs, reading all the way through, circling unfamiliar words, underlining, highlighting, etc. are all the steps of this reading strategy.
What is annotating?
This type of figurative language uses extreme exaggeration for emphasis or effect.
What is hyperbole?
Identify the error: "She dont like going to the movies on Sundays."
What is the incorrect verb—“don’t” should be “doesn’t”?
The first sentence of an introduction paragraph, used to grab the reader's attention
What is a hook?
Bolded titles within a text that provide context to what the upcoming paragraphs will be about
What are subheadings?
This term describes the perspective from which a story is told
What is point of view?
This compares two unlike things by saying one is the other, without using like or as.
What is metaphor?
Choose the sentence with correct punctuation:

This paragraph structure is used in informative and argumentative writing to explain key ideas.
What is a CERR?
This describes the author’s attitude toward the subject, and the feeling the reader gets while reading.
What is tone and mood?
"The wind whispered secrets through the trees as I walked home."
What is personification?
Identify and correct the two errors in this sentence:

When you use the words and sentences around an unfamiliar word to figure out its meaning, you're using this strategy.

What is onomatopoeia and alliteration?
Identify and correct the errors in this sentence:
"The dog run fast and he dont like to be around other dogs."
