Is this an example of explicit or implicit information and how do you know?  Give an example of the information you find:

When Amanda walked into the lunchroom, she kept her eyes on the floor and headed straight for the back table. As she sat down, she pulled out a book and pretended to read, even though she hadn’t turned a page in five minutes. Around her, groups of students laughed and chatted loudly, but no one joined her table.

  • Amanda is feeling lonely or left out — This is not directly stated, but we can infer it from her actions (keeping her eyes down, sitting alone, pretending to read).

  • She may be trying to avoid attention or hide her feelings — Her body language and behavior suggest she doesn’t want others to notice her.

Schools should start later in the morning so students can get more sleep. Many students wake up very early and feel tired during class, which makes it hard to focus and learn.
