Reliable--oldest book from ancient times; some artifacts have been found to prove the stories in the Bible. 

Unreliable--many different authors wrote it, many of whom are unknown; the stories were written hundreds of years after they happened; artifacts haven't been found to prove all of the stories.

1) Look at the author of the document-determine their bias and if they are reliable. 

2) Look at the date of the document-decide if it was written as a firsthand witness or at a later date with new artifacts that were found. 

3) Look at the evidence in the passage. Is there any?
