Ratios & Proportional Relationships
The constant unit rate in a proportional relationship between two quantities.
constant of proportionality
Any number that can be written in the form p/q, where p and q are integers and q≠0.
Rational Number
Two angles with measures that sum to 90°.
complementary angles
The distance around the circle.
circumference
The distance of a number from zero on a number line, regardless of direction. It is always a non-negative value and is represented by placing the number between two vertical bars.
absolute value
The constant of proportionality in a scale drawing.
scale factor
After a certain digit, all remaining digits consist of a block of one or more digits that repeat indefinitely.
repeating decimal
Two angles with measures that sum to 180°.
supplementary angles
Any line segment that passes through the center of the circle and has endpoints on the circle.
diameter
A mathematical statement that shows the equality between two expressions. It consists of two expressions separated by an equals sign (=).
equation
A comparison between two quantities with different units, expressed as a ratio.
rate
A decimal that can be written with a finite number of nonzero digits.
terminating decimal
Nonadjacent angles that are formed when two lines intersect at exactly one point.
vertical angles
A mathematical constant defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
pi
The percent the absolute error is of the actual value, (|x−a|/a ⋅ 100)% where a is the actual value of the quantity and x is the approximate value of the quantity.
percent error
A ratio that compares a quantity to one unit of another quantity.
If the product of two numbers is zero, then at least one of the numbers is zero.
zero product property
A set of adjacent angles that share a common vertex and have measures that sum to 360°.
angles at a point
Any line segment that has one endpoint on the circle and the other endpoint on the center of the circle.
radius
An equation that states that two ratios are equivalent.
proportion
A copy of a figure in the plane with all distances proportional to the corresponding distances in the original figure.
scale drawing
A common notation for a repeating decimal expansion.
bar notation
The set of all solutions of an equation or inequality.
solution set
A three-dimensional solid that has two identical polygonal regions, called bases, in parallel planes. The bases are connected by parallelograms that have common edges.
prism
Given the actual value, a, of a quantity and an approximate value, x, of the quantity, this is |x−a|.
absolute error
