Define microorganism

a microscopic organism, meaning it's too small to be seen with the naked eye

100

Define energy

the ability to make things move or change

100

Define kinetic energy

the energy that an object has because it is moving

100

Define atoms

the tiny pieces that all matter—all the stuff in the world—is made of

100
Name the 3 types of plate boundaries

convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries

200
Are all microorganisms bad?

No, there are good bacteria that helps our body function and bad bacteria that harms our body, too.

200

What three molecules are needed for biotic matter to survive?

glucose, oxygen, and starch

200

Define freedom of movement

the way molecules in a substance move around relative to each other

200

What is difference between products and reactants?

Products are the end results

Reactants are the different substances before a chemical reaction

200

The idea that the continents were one all connected and who created this idea

Pangaea by Alfred Wegener

300

Define cells

the tiny structures that make up all living things and are the smallest units able to perform life functions

300

Explain a pancreas injury

any damage to the pancreas caused by external force that disrupts the body's ability to digest food, regulate blood sugar, and produce hormones

300

How does molecular attraction play a role in phase changes?

stronger intermolecular forces require more energy to overcome, resulting in higher melting and boiling points

300
How do we know a chemical reaction occurred?

If the atoms are rearranged

300

T/F: Igneous rocks can become sedimentary rocks.

True

400

How are antibiotics helpful and harmful?

Antibiotics kills all bacteria - including "good" bacteria. This exposes the body to potentially more harmful bacteria.

400

Explain asthma

respiratory condition that causes inflamed and narrowed airways, leading to breathing difficulties, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness

400

Describe the process from solid, liquid, and gas

solid to liquid: melting

liquid to gas: evaporation

400

T/F. Burning is a chemical reaction.

True.

400

What determines the age of a rock sample?

The layer is was found and decaying properties

500

How are cells, tissues, organs, and systems related?

Cells are the basic units of life, and similar cells working together form tissues. Tissues combine to create organs and perform specific functions. Organs work together within organ systems to carry out complex life processes.

500

Explain diabetes

high blood sugar levels, resulting from either the body not producing enough insulin or cells not responding properly to insulin

500

Is liquid oxygen possible? Why or why not?

It is possible. Liquid oxygen is much harder to find than liquid water because oxygen molecules
aren’t strongly attracted to other oxygen molecules. (weaker molecular attraction)

500

What does fertilizer consist of?

sodium, nitrogen, and oxygen

NaNO3

500

How are plate motions and rock formations related?

New rock layers form through the process of divergent plate boundaries forming new rock/land. This includes magma from the mantle that eventually cools down forming igneous rocks. The lower the rock sample, the older it is.
