What is relative dating?

method geologist use to place rocks in chronological order, it identifies which rock came first

100

 Describe Precambrian life

Life was in the ocean with single celled organisms that didn't need oxygen, however at the end of Precambrian life the multicellular organisms came and needed oxygen.

100

Describe the Food web

Shows feeding relationships. Success or failure of one population can change every population

100

4 forms of precipitation

rain, snow, sleet, hail

100

Relative humidity

the amount of water vapor in the air compared with the maximum amount of water vapor that the air can hold at a certain temp

200

What is Superposition?

In a sequence of sedimentary rocks, the layer is older than the one above it and younger than the one below it

200

What are Energy Resources and how are they made?

Oil and Natural gas are main energy sources from the ocean floor. The remains of marine life were buried and heated from Earths' interior and pressure from rocks that turned them into oil and natural gas.

200

Describe Currents

Currents effect climates because when the ocean water is closer to the equator it absorbs more energy from the sun than from farther away from the equator. Currents from low-latitude regions move into higher latitudes, they transfer heat from warmer to cooler areas, and when the colder water travels to the equator, it cools the hotter water.

200

What is water vapor

water in gas form

200

how do clouds form

they form when water vapor goes from gas to liquid due to the cooler temperatures, it then condenses into dust particles in the air

300

What is a fossil?

The remains or physical evidence of a once-living organism. It is preserved in sedimentary rock.

300

Describe Plankton

Organisms that drift with ocean currents. Some can swim but when they do they are weak or they swim vertically.

300

What is the atmosphere?

A mixture of gasses that surround the Earth

300
Ways water can change

Solid to liquid(melting) liquid to solid (freezing) gas to liquid (condensation) solid to gas (sublimation) gas to solid (deposition)

300

Wind

Horizontal differences in air pressure. the air flows from areas of high to low pressure

400

What were the eras in the Phanozoic eon and what were the animal life?

Paleozoic era: Marine life, formed 542 million years ago. Mesozoic era: Reptile life, formed 251 million years ago. Cenozoic era; Mammal life formed 65 million years ago

400

Describe Phytoplankton

Organisms that can perform Photosynthesis
400

Break down of the atmosphere

78%nitrogen, 21%oxygen 1%trace gases 0.93% argon, water vapor, carbon dioxide and other gases

400

Humidity

the amount of water vapor in the air

400

What is astronomy

the study of space

500

Describe the Atmosphere

It was made up of water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, trace gases but no oxygen. However the Photosynthetic bacteria put oxygen over time.

500

Describe Zooplankton

Animal like plankton
500

Earth's motion

Rotation is the Earth spinning on its axis it takes 24 hours to rotate once. Revolution is movement around the sun. it takes 365.25days to revolve around the sun

500

Why does warmer air hold more water vapor

Because air is less dense

500

Describe our galaxy

the earth is part of the solar system, which is part of the Milky way galaxy, which is 1 of possibly 2 trillion galaxies in the universe which contain billions of stars
