These people in Pleasantville aren't called up to do their actual jobs like they are initially supposed to be doing. This is similar to Fahrenheit and how they spend their time burning books instead putting out fire.

People that live in Pleasantville cannot handle or accept change or differences of routine within their community.
What is it when the people in gray and black judge the people with colors because they look different and seem to be a supposedly a hazard to the community.
Skip begins to see a sudden change in his world when he all of a sudden begins to see a red rose after his date with Mary Sue.
What is Allusion?
Both the Pleasantville society and giver society both don't have this feature until there is a sudden change. This thing changes the way that people look after they do something they have always wanted or have the temptation to do.

These things contain knowledge that is important and seems to be a hidden secret in both the Pleasantville and Fahrenheit society. They contain information nobody in the community that is a civilian has seen or heard.

In the court room where Bud is about to be jailed for breaking the painting rules he begins to suggest to his father that there's something deep down he misses about his wife that is meaningful to him.
What is that nobody in the societies can think of or else the cycle messes up, but also nobody is able to accept certain feelings and thoughts that they have because of the constant distractions going on.
