Ms.Paul Trivia
100

group of the same type of organism from the same area

population

100

How can we describe a population?

Distribution (number of individuals with a trait) and variation (number of traits)

100

What is an adaptive trait?

Trait that makes it more likely that an individual will survive in a specific environment

100

What is a gene?

Instructions for making protein molecules, determine organisms traits

100

What is my favorite color?

Green

200

Specific characteristic of an organism (can be passed down)

trait

200

Is this histogram high in variation or distribution?

Variation (horizontal on the graph)

200

Can an organisms can change their traits during their life time?

No, you are born with the traits you are given.

200

Where does a individual get their genes?

From their parents

200

What high school did I go to and what year did I graduate?

Millard North, 2020

300

group of individuals born about the same time

generation

300

Is this graph high in distribution or variation?

Distribution (Vertical)

300

What is the adaptive trait?

Color yellow

300

What is a protein molecule?

Large molecule that performs important functions inside of an organism (cells)

300

What sorority was I in?

Alpha Omicron Pi

400

number of individuals with each trait in a population (vertical)

Distribution

400

What happened to the Newt population?

Poison became an adaptive trait. Newts with poison were more likely to survive and reproduce.

400

What is a non-adaptive trait? Give an example

Trait that prevents you from surviving and reproducing.

400

Does an organism always have offspring with adaptive traits?

No, non adaptive traits can also be passed on. Those with non adaptive traits are less likely to survive and reproduce.

400

When is my birthday?

08/19/2002
500

difference in traits between organisms (horizontal)

Variation

500

If the environment is going from soft seeds to tough seeds, how will the histogram change and why?

Move to the left because a strong beak will become an adaptive trait.

In a lush, green forest lived a group of rabbits. Among them was a unique rabbit named Leo. While most rabbits had a standard brown fur coat, Leo had a white fur coat that stood out against the vibrant greens and browns of the forest. At first, his friends worried that he would be easily spotted by predators. However, as winter approached and the snow began to blanket the forest, Leo found himself blending in perfectly with the snowy landscape, while his brown-furred friends became very visible to the predators prowling through the white snow.

What is the adaptive trait?

Leo's white fur coat

500

How do some traits become more common over generations and others become less common?

Those with adaptive traits survive and reproduce at a higher rate then those with non adaptive traits. This makes their genes more common in a population.
