What happens during interphase?

With its extra organelles, proteins, and chromosomes is ready for the four phases of mitosis

100

What happens in start?

Start: Meiosis has doubled its number of chromosomes and its cytoplasmic proteins and organelles.

100

Why is meiosis split into meiosis I and II?

It goes through PMAT twice [Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase twice] The first time the chromosomes do not unravel.

100

How many homologous pairs do you have?

22

What happens in prophase?

Centrosomes are carried to ends of the opposite sides of the cytoplasm by protein motors. The centrosomes then assemble fibers from the cytoskeleton into a structure called the mitotic spindle. The mitotic spindle will align and separate chromosomes in later phrases.

200

What happens in prophase I and metaphase I?

Prophase I: Membrane around the nucleus dissolves, each chromosomes joins with its homologous chromosome to form a tetrad. Chromosomes called over crossing over.

Metaphase I: The spindle when homologous chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell.

In which phase of meiosis is genetic information exchanged between chromosomes

Prophase 1

200

In which stage of the cell cycle is the preparing itself to divide

Interphase

What is april, tony, guli, and kalin's favorites of colors?

April and Tony: Purple

Guli: Pink

Kalin: Orange

300

What happens in metaphase?

The fibers of the mitotic spindle attach to proteins on the centromere of each chromosome. These fibers pull chromosomes to align them along a line called the equatorial plane.

300

What happens in anaphase I and telophase and cytokinesis?

Anaphase I: The paired homologous chromosomes would separate from each other and move to opposite ends of the cell as the kinetochore microtubules shorten.

Telophase and Cytokinesis: Telophase is followed by cytokinesis, or the division of the cytoplasm into two daughter cells.

300

Give two differences between anaphase I and anaphase II in meiosis

Anaphase I has one cell, and anaphase II has two cells. The tetrad splits in anaphase I, and in anaphase II, the centromere splits. Anaphase 1 separates the tetrads and pulls whole chromosomes toward the centrosomes. Anaphase 11 pulls the chromatids toward the centrosome and the centrosomes split.

300

A single muscle cell can contain dozens of nuclei. Which stage of the cell cycle is not completing? How do you know?

Cytokinesis because if the cell has gone through cytokinesis it would only have one nucleus.

300

how many toenail beds does kalin have

What happens in anaphase?

The centromeres, which hold two chromatids of each chromosome together, send out a  signal that splits the centromeres in half and pulls the chromatids toward the centrosomes.

400

What happens in prophase II and metaphase II?

Prophase II: In each of the daughter cells, a new spindle apparatus forms, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and the chromatin condenses into chromosomes again.

Metaphase II: The spindle fibers align chromosomes on the equatorial plane.

400

Which type of cell division turns a diploid cell into a haploid cell?

Meiosis

400

During which phase of mitosis do the centromeres split?

Anaphase

500

What happens in telophase?

The chromatids are now their own chromosomes and the nucleus begins to reform around them. In the nucleus  reassembles and the chromosomes uncoil to become chromatin again. In the cytoplasm, the mitotic spindle disassembles. Cytokinesis begins.

500

What happens in anaphase II and telophase II and cytokinesis?

Anaphase II: The chromosomes centromeres split, and the spindle pull the chromatids towards the centrosomes

Telophase II and cytokinesis: In telophase II, nuclear membranes form around each set of chromosomes, and the chromosomes decondense. Cytokinesis splits the chromosome sets into new cells

500

What's the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction?

Asexual: One Parent cell; Process that produces offspring genetically identical to their parents.

Sexual: Two parent cells; Two haploid cells join to form a genetically different diploid zygote.

500

During which phase of mitosis does the mitotic spindle assemble? In which phase does it disassemble?

Prophase and telophase

500

yes.
