Staff need to be in different areas of the classroom and move to where the majority of the students are. Side conversations between staff make it difficult to truly supervise all children.
A person comes to pick up a child and you don't recognize them. What do you do? What if they are not on the emergency contacts?
Check emergency contacts and ID. If they do not have an ID, they must go get it and come back
Do not release the child.
What are the correct steps for washing the tables before meal times?
1. Wash hands
2. use a clean bucket of warm, soapy water and clean washcloths
3. A different clean cloth is used to wash each table. Do not put a dirty towel in the clean water.
4. After washing tables, spray with red sanitizer bottle.
5. It is best to air dry tables, but if have to wipe down tables must wait at least 2 minutes.
How do we explain eligibility to families?
Enrollment is based on criteria points, just because they are income eligible does not mean they will be accepted.
Head Start is based on income eligibility.
1. at or below 100% of the federal poverty level
2. Public assistance: SSI, TANIF, SNAP
3. Homelessness, foster or kinship care
4. 35% of enrollment can be 101 - 130% of the poverty level
5. 10% of enrollment can be over income
6. 3% of our slots have to be saved for homelessness or foster care

When a child is in immediate danger of hurting themselves or others.

3. Go out the front doors and form a circle at the back of the parking lot and count children

What do we do if a child becomes sick during school? What if we can't get a hold of the parents?
Contact the family immediately (classroom staff), let CM or FA know you are sending a child home. If a child is sick, take them to the Kangaroo or Sensory room to lay down (if not able to do that due to staffing, ask CM or FA to help).
If you are not able to get a hold of parents within 30 minutes, call the emergency contact numbers.
During school the doorbell rings. You go to open the door and notice it is a police officer and a social worker. What do you do? What can you tell them?
Facts only, not your thoughts. Still keep it at a need to know basis, do not word vomit. You answer their questions directly, factually, and accurately. You do not need to add extra, unless it pertains to safety of the child.
What is the procedure when you give a child medication?
1. make sure you have authorization signed by parent
2. Record full name of child, name of medication, dosage, time, date/name of person administering medication in the med logbook the same day that med is administered.

What does it mean to be a mandated reporter?
Staff are responsible for reporting suspected or identified child abuse cases. We do not investigate this, we report any suspicions. Any reports need to be factual, not opinions. It is a staff members responsibility to report and are held responsible for it.
The teacher in the classroom notices that a child is a little less active than normal and has a runny nose, though she has been playing on and off. She is still participating in various activities. The teacher checks her temperature and it is 101.0.
Does the child need to go home? Why or why not?
What is difficult about this case?
No, fever is below 101.5 and the child is still active and does not need extra care from a staff member.
It is a difficult case because we know the child is not feeling well and may be coming down with a sickness. We do not make a diagnosis
Who is responsible for changing the toilet paper roll in the adult bathrooms? Where can you find extra toilet paper.
Whoever uses the end of the roll (nobody can use 3 sheets of toilet paper to wipe). We are all adults and can replace it ourselves. If you need more toilet paper, it is in the cleaning closet. Please take more than one roll to stock the bathrooms.
