Figurative language
A comparison of two or more items using the words "like" or "as"
What is a simile?
A one sentence summary.
What is the main idea?
This type of literary sub-genre consists of a very short story with a moral at the end. Often talking animals are included.
What is a fable?
This is added to the ending of a word to alter the word.
What is a suffix?
This drives a character to behave in a certain way.
What is the character's motivation?
An intentionally exaggerated image or figure of speech.
What is hyperbole?
the words that characters speak; the conversations characters have with one another in a play
What is dialogue?
When an author gives the reader clues about what might happen next.
What is foreshadowing?
when an author repeats a similar consonant sound at the beginning of a word to create a musical or rhythmic effect (such as "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers").
What is alliteration?
How the author chooses to present the story to the reader; for example, using a narrator or the word "I" or "you"
What is point of view?
Applying human characteristics to non-human objects.

The time and location of a story
What is the setting?
When an author returns to an earlier time in a story to give the reader prior information.
What is flashback?
This kind of literary genre features gods, goddesses and often takes place in an ancient world

The basic truth or moral of the story; What the author wants the reader to remember.
