Explain difference between plasmolysis and crenation

Plasmolysis occurs in plant cells, while crenation occurs in animal cells when both lose water in a salty or hypertonic environment.

• Plasmolysis: The inner plasma membrane pulls away from the cell wall as the internal fluid shrinks. Gaps form between the wall and the membrane.
  
  
• Crenation: The whole cell shrinks and becomes wrinkled, notched, or spiky with scalloped edges.
