This is a reason many New England colonies were founded.
What is religious freedom?
This is the colony founded by the Puritans. They would not let non-Puritans be a part of their colony.
What is Massachusetts Bay?
This motive for exploration means the explorers hoped to find natural materials that would make them rich.
What is Gold?
This is the word left behind when the Roanoke settlement disappeared.
What is Croatoan?
This is the main industry of the Southern colonies.
What are plantations?
This colony created a safe place for Catholics to live.
This motive for exploration meant people wanted to spread their religion to the new world.
What is God?
This is a reason both Plymouth and Jamestown were able to survive as settlements.
What is help from the native people?
This is the reason many of the New England colonies had democratic forms of government.
What is to protect their religious freedom?
This is the colony that had the most positive relationship with Native Americans, because of their Quaker beliefs.
What is Pennsylvania?
This motive for exploration meant countries wanted land and resources in the new world to make themselves more powerful.
What is Glory?
This is what Capt. John Smith said to the Jamestown settlers who only wanted to search for gold, instead of farming.
What is "If you don't work, you don't eat"?
This made the culture of the Middle Colonies different than the New England and Southern colonies.
What is diversity/diverse populations?
These are the two reasons why Georgia was founded.
What are protection from the Spanish in Florida AND a new place for debtors to live?
This is the reason explorers began sailing west from Europe in the first place.
What is a new route to Asia?
This is the name of the document signed by the Pilgrims before they landed at Plymouth, agreeing to live by certain rules. It was one of the first examples of democracy in the colonies.
What is the Mayflower Compact?
This is the reason many of the Middle and Southern colonies did NOT have democratic governments.
What is to make money for the King?
This is the reason King George took control of Georgia after the colonial government outlawed slavery in the colony.
