The movie is able to show in visuals while the play must describe in words. Anything Marley says is able to be shown so we no longer need his narration. Cratchit covers the only narration we need in the end.

Why do movie producers choose to make the movie spookier than the play? What effect does this have on the play?
They want to relay more emotion into the viewer. Ghosts would have been scary to Scrooge and the play doesn't convey that well. The viewer is able to feel the same emotion (fear) as Scrooge and therefore is better able to connect with him?
