How do the bones in an owl pellet give us clues about their habitat?

Depending on the contents found in the pellet you can tell where an owl's habitat is located. For example, owl pellets from Northwestern United States most frequently contain the remains of voles, which are abundant in the area. On the other hand, voles are absent from parts of the Southeast; in those areas, rats are more commonly found in owl pellets.

What does the word mandible mean in relation to the rodent skeletal system?

the lower jaw

400

What would happen if all the apex predators died out in an ecosystem?

Removal of apex predators throws ecosystems out of balance. Their direct prey dramatically increase in number, which affects the populations of other animals and plants. For example, removing wolves from an area allows the deer population to spike. The deer overgraze, causing a decline in some plant species.
