Reinforcement
Define motivation.
The learner's interest.
What does IBI stand for?
How many times should you reinforce readiness skills during a session?
20-50 times
What is the final step in the 4-term contingency?
Consequence
Name the 4 functions of behaviour.
Access
Attention
Sensory
Name 2 different types of preference assessments.
Stimulus Preference Assessments
Reinforcement Survey
Observation in “Natural Situations”
Forced-Choice or Paired Stimulus Preference Assessment
Pre-Session Stimulus Choice
Free-Operant Assessment
Reinforcer Sampling
Trying and Seeing
What is an FBA? Name an example
Functional Behaviour Assessment.
Descriptive Functional Behaviour Assessment
ABC Continuous Recording
ABC Narrative Recording
Scatterplots
Describe how you would run baseline for a new target.
- Select the next target from the target list
- Test the learner to see if they can demonstrate the skill independently
- If yes circle "Y" and move onto the next target, if no circle "N" and transfer the target to the data sheet
- make sure to test the skills without prompts or reinforcement
What is the antecedent?
The events that occur before a behaviour that will elicit the behaviour.
Name 3 different types of behaviours.
1. Non-cooperation
2. Aggression
3. Crying
4. Flopping
5. Self-Stimulation
6. Self-Injurious Behaviour
Name some 3 ways to gain attention.
Mention the child’s name firmly once
Gently move the child’s chin to look at you
Place your hands on the sides of the child’s eyes to block out distractions
Administer high probability request prior to giving instructions
Sometimes it already captured at establishing their MO or reinforcer they are working towards.
Clear the area of distractors
Change the learner's seating arrangement
What does DTT stand for? Describe this teaching strategy.
Discrete Trial Training.
Breaking a skill down into smaller “discrete” parts then systematically these parts and skills are taught one by one.
Which three documents should you refer to first to guide your session structure?
Manding protocol, toileting protocol and behaviour support plan
Name 3 different examples of setting events.
Learner didn't sleep, they're sick, they had a bad day at school, etc.
Define extinction.
The discontinuing of a reinforcement of a previously reinforced behavior (i.e., responses no longer produce reinforcement); the primary effect is a decrease in the frequency of the behavior until it reaches a pre-reinforced level or ultimately ceases to occur.
How do you know that an item or activity is acting as a reinforcer?
Deliver the SD
the child responses incorrectly
put child’s hands down and/or remove materials (if the program involves materials)
re-administer SD immediately prompt correct response deliver reinforcement
What 4 things should you look for to understand how to run a program without someone modeling it for you?
SD, Teaching procedure, Objective, Materials
Describe how to deliver an instruction.
Be brief and clear
Give the instruction only after the child is attending
The instruction only given once
Use a firm, clear voice
Use simple but natural and functional language
No sing-song, yelling or raising voices.
No negotiations or power struggles
Monotone voice
Describe 3 antecedent strategies for managing behaviour.
Arrange environment to prevent behaviour.
Teach functional alternative skill serving the same function.
Making the task easier.
Giving choices.
Describe a Forced Choice Preference assessment.
Present possible reinforcers to the child two at a time and record which of the pair the child selects.
Describe the difference between ABA and IBI
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a science, not a practice. Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI) is a practice, not a science.
IBI is a structured program consisting of different strategies to teach children different sets of skills and appropriate behaviours. These structures, frameworks and strategies are grounded upon the science of ABA.
Describe the structure of a communication note.
Write in pen and print. Check for proper grammar and spelling.
Write an opening sentence, 3 to 4 specific points about programming and then a closing note.
How much delay should their be between the child's response and your consequence delivery?
0-2 seconds
Problem behaviour.
Extinction/Planned Ignoring
Instruct appropriate behaviour
Prompt appropriate behaviour
Reinforce appropriate behaviour.
