What is a reading goal?
It is the number of points that you are trying to achieve is a set time (weekly, quarterly, yearly)
How are AR points decided?
Points are computed based on the difficulty of the book (ATOS readability level) and the length of the book (number of words). AR Points are a way of measuring how much reading practice you are getting.
Why are there color coded dots on the spine of AR books?
It helps the reader select books of interest within a range of levels often also expressed as a ZPD range from the STAR test .
What if I start testing in the wrong book?
Notify your teacher immediately. DO NOT continue to test. Your teacher will clear it so that it will not affect your points.

No, you should try to read within your ZPD, which is set up in the program to challenge your reading progress.
How do you choose a book that is "Just Right" for you, if you are not using the AR reading level color codes chart?
You should open the book of interest and start reading the first page. See how many words are difficult to read. 2-3 difficult determine whether your book is "just right" for you. Less than 2, the book is too easy. 5 or more, the book is too hard.
