What is the purpose of the UN?
To maintain peace between nations and to create stronger relationships.
What is a Placard?
A piece of cardstock with a country's name on it that a delegate raises in the air to signal to the Chair that he or she wishes to speak.
What is a gavel?
The tool, shaped like a small wooden hammer, which the Chair uses to keep order within a Model UN committee.
What is a Point?
Points are statements by delegates that are unrelated to the committee

What is roll call?
A form of taking attendance to see which delegations are present
What is a chair?
A person who is in charge of the debate, keeps time, calls for points and motions, and enforces the rules of model un procedure. Also usually uses a gavel.

Roll Call -- each delegate is called and they must either be present or present and voting.
What is a motion?
A formal proposal of an idea for committee to vote on

it is where delegates stand up and speak for a certain amount of time on a topic voted on by the committee

A Model UN event held by a school or college in which students debate on certain topics picked by that school
