What does EEO stand for?

An Emergency Exit Only door is a door that does not have a card reader and is used as an emergency exit only. Opening the door will set off an alarm 100 percent of the time. EEO doors typically are unlocked all of the time in the path of egress. Local code can dictate that the doors be unlocked in one or both directions (e.g. emergencies).

What is Tailgating?

Tailgating occurs when an unauthorized person uses the recent verification of the credentials of an authorized person to gain access through an access point, thus breaking Amazon’s policy of “One Badge—One Entry.” The authorized (badged) individual may or may not know that the unauthorized person followed them through the access point.

What does MDF stand for?

Main Distribution Frame – A computer rack that interconnects and manages the telecommunications wiring between itself and any number of IDFs and cabling from the telephony network it supports. Unlike an IDF, which connects internal lines to the MDF, the MDF connects private or public lines coming into a building with the internal network. This is a Zone 5 room.

What is Piggybacking?

Similar to tailgating, piggybacking occurs when an unauthorized person follows a badged person at an extremely close range (typically within inches) through a rotating security door or turnstile, into a restricted area without swiping their badge. In most cases, piggybacking requires collusion with a badged person.

Intermediate Distribution Frame – A free-standing or wall-mounted rack that serves as a distribution point for wiring or cables from the MDF (also called the CDF) to individual cables connected to equipment such as workstations, personal computers and other end-user devices. This is a Zone 4 room.

What is Self-policing?

The act of Amazon associates supporting Amazon’s access control policies by challenging individuals who are not appropriately badging through access control points where there is no guard support, and challenging people without a badge and unescorted visitors within Amazon non-Public space.

What does CR-PIN stand for?

Card Read PIN Door - An access door that has an electronic lock which releases (unlocks) when a valid badge with access is presented to a card reader and the card holder enters their PIN. These are generally associated with Zone 5 rooms.

What is the difference in ACS and BAC?

Amazon Corporate Security – Site security design and implementation, guard staffing, BAC, badge rooms, and business continuity are all collectively known as Amazon Corporate Security. 

Business Assurance Center (BAC) – The BAC serves as a centralized monitoring and service call center for Amazon Corporate Security managed sites. Alarms are acknowledged and assessed, with a potential dispatch of guards, facility managers, or business representatives. The BAC also receives calls and trouble tickets from users for a wide variety of security and facility needs.
