What does Addictive mean?
Being dependent on or hooked on something.
What is an Overdose?
When you take a toxic (poisonous) amount of a drug or medicine.
It is important to remember that not all overdoses are fatal or life threatening, however medical advice should always be sought if overdose is suspected or has occurred.
What stage is Henry in and why?
I was Henry's friend in middle school. He wasn't using drugs very often back then. He still hung out with all his old friends, and he was close to his family. Every now and then, someone would offer him a drug, and he would usually take it. He said he was getting used to it and he didn't feel so out of it like he did the first few times he used the stuff. Henry seemed okay. He wasn't thinking about it all the time and never bought it. He could take it or leave it.
Stage 2: Pattern Use. He was not buying the drugs but his tolerance was increasing.
What is an intervention?
An attempt by one or many people – usually family and friends – to get someone to seek professional help with an addiction or some kind of traumatic event or crisis, or other serious problem.

A habit is a behavior that has become so much a part of your life that you don’t even stop to think about anymore.
Describe the second stage of addiction? What starts to build up?
Pattern use. Does not purchase drugs but will use them if they are offered or available. Tolerance starts to build up meaning the user needs more of the drug to feel the same effects.
What stage is Henry in and why?
I was a friend of Henry's for years, and we played on the same basketball time. I started to notice a change in Henry's behavior. He missed several practices and stopped hanging out with his regular friends to hang out with people that used drugs. He began to plan when and where he would use the stuff again. His parents didn't know because Henry would lie about who he was with and where he was going. He missed important basketball games, and his grades dropped.

What is In-patient treatment?
A form of treatment wear the patient lives in a recovery facility.
What is the role of a listener?
To understand, acknowledge and/or learn from the speaker.
What is a Withdrawal?
Withdrawal is a period of time when the addicted user begins to experience uncomfortable symptoms (sick) from not taking the drug. This makes quitting difficult.

Experimental use. First time experience in social settings because of curiosity, impulsiveness and/or peer pressure.
What stage is Henry in and why?
When I met Henry, he was fun and really smart. He was active in all sorts of clubs and lots of friends. I remember the first time he used drugs. We were at a party and some other kids offered us something. Henry was curious and the other kids were pressuring us. I said no, but Henry said, "why not".
Stage 1: Experimental use. First time use due to being curious and/or peer pressure.
What is a support group?
A group of people in which the user may meet with frequently in a therapeutic session that share similar issues that help each other through the recovery process.

Needing more and more of the drug to get the same effect from the last time the drug was used.
What is the last stage of Addiction?
Addiction. The drive to find and use the drug is all that matters.
What stage is Henry in and why?
I was one of Henry's closet friends. One morning I caught Henry using in his room before school. He said he just needed "to take the edge off." He seemed irritable and uncomfortable without the drug. I was worried about him, so I told him I thought he had a drug problem. He said he needed it to cope.
Stage 4: Addiction. Henry is dependent on the drug to escape withdrawals.
What are codependents?
People who become overly concerned with another's addiction problem and feel driven to fix or control it.

What stage is Henry in and why?
Henry and I were suppose to meet up at the movies to hang out. He was three minutes late. I noticed he was irritable, snappy and his teeth were turning yellow.

A slip from recovery where the patient returns back to their old habit/ addictive behavior
