A. MMR

C. Hep B
D. Influenza
C. Hep B
From your Health Promotion PowerPoint slide with the immunization schedule courtesy of Dr. Jessica Bahorski, the only vaccination required within 24 hours of delivery is the Hep B vaccination. MMR is given at 12-15 months, Varicella at 12-15 months, and influenza at 6 months.

C. Complete physical exam only on as needed basis in healthy individuals for ages 11-14.
From your Health Promotion PowerPoint for Adolescents ages 11-19 slide. Syphilis screening is done when sexually active. HPV is given in series 2 months apart for ages 9-14. Influenza should be given annually. For healthy individuals ages 11-14, an annual physical exam should be given to all regardless of current health

rationalization (neurotic)

A mental status examination (MSE) has several key components. Which of the following is not a key component of the MSE?
A. Speech
B. Appearance
C. Cognitive Examination
D. Medical Issues
D. Medical Issues
From your Carlat book under mental status examination chapter. While medical issues should be considered as part of an intake and even medical management appointments, they are not a key component of the MSE.
In 2023, 11 out of every 1,000 people were noted to have Diabetes. Information noted in this manner would indicate which of the following:
A. Prevalence of a disease
B. Incidence of a disease
C. Specficiity of a disease
D. Senstiviity of a disease
Prevalence of a disease
As noted in the Anatomy Review Powerpoint: Prevalence of a disease is the proportion of the population that is affected by a disease or disorder at a particular time. As noted in the question 11 out of 1,000 individuals were noted to have diabetes in a given period of time
(2023). It is not incidence of a disease because the question does not specify number of new cases, just the number of individuals diagnosed with diabetes. Sensitivity is regarding testing and involves true positives, the degree to which those who have the disease actaully screened positive. Whereas specificity are true negatives, the degree to which those who do not have the disease screen negative.
Taking up the opposite feeling, impulse or behavior in order to reduce anxiety
ex. treating someone you dislike in a friendly manner in order to hide true feelings
reaction formation (NEUROTIC)
aspects of a person or self are seen only in extremes and not able to integrated
ex. a woman views her husband as either all good or bad cannot integrate negative and positive

Which of the following terms would be utilized to describe a client's thought processes?
A. coherent
B. suicidal ideations
C. homicidal ideations
D. Delusional thinking
A. Coherent
This is from the Carlat book within the mental status examination chapter. Thought processes refer to a framework of thinking, or sequence of ideas which build on each other. Thought content delves into what particular thoughts are present or absent. Thought processes can be linear, coherent, illogical, incoherent, etc. Thought content can include delusional thoughts, as well as suicidal/homicidal ideations.
Refusal to admit or recognize that something has occurred is us currently occurring
ex. Alcoholic who denies they have a problem in the face of job loss or divorce
type of defense
Denial (NEUROTIC)
(PRIMITIVE or narcissistic)
Focusing on the intellectual component to avoid thinking about a stressful or emotional aspect
ex. a person with a terminal illness spends hours learning about the disease and treatment to distance his/her from reality

Which of the following would be an example of an immature defense mechanism:
A. Sublimation
B. Humor
C. Suppression
D. Repression
D. Repression
Repression is an immature defense mechanism. Sublimation, Suppression and Humor are examples of mature defense mechanisms. Refer to your Carlat book in the chapter on Practical Psychodynamics in the Diagnostic Interview. under mature defense mechanisms. It can be easy to mix up suppression and repression. In suppression (mature defense mechanism) emotions remain conscious but are suppressed. "I'm disappointed and sad, but I won't let these emotions run my life." In repression (immature defense mechanism), the emotions are removed from the conscious awareness but these emotions have a way of showing up in negative ways. For example,
"I'm not sad he left me, but I have been having a lot of stomach issues lately."

ex. a person with extreme anger goes to the gym to box
sublimation (mature, healthy, helpful, flexible)
Fluency (of language, stuttering? Word-finding difficulty?)
Normal amount? incresed? (hypomania or mania) or decreased (anxiety or disinterest? thought-blocking or psychosis?
Rate, tone, and volume

A patient who looks at the picture of red roses and perceives a monster dripping blood from its mouth is experiencing:
A. an illusion
B. a delusion
C. a hullucination
D. magical thinking
A. an illusion
From your MSE PowerPoint: Illusion: the patient misinterprets real external stimuli, such as perceiving the picture of the red roses as a monster with blood dripping form its mouth. In a delusion the patient has false personal beliefs despite evidence to the contrary, such as a somatic delusion in which they have false ideas about the functioning of their body. In a hallucination the patient experiences false sensory perceptions (auditory, visual, tactile, gustatory, and olfactory). Magic thinking: the patient believes that thoughts have power to control people, situations, or things.

the conscious removal of unwanted information out of awareness
ex. the woman decided to put aside and not think about her negative test results until after her daughter's wedding
suppression (mature, helpful, flexible, healthy)
Patient's own words to describe their mood ("sad" "angry")
