What is a whole Number?
Number that starts from 0 to idea of infinity
(EX: {0,1,2,3,...}
What is the rule that you must follow in a problem?
PEMDAS
(parenthesis),
Exponents
Multiplication
devision
addition
subtraction
What is the absolute value of -6?
(solve)
/-6/ = 6
what is a variable?
A letter representing a number
The answer to a abslute value can never be a...
NEGATIVE
What is set notation? (this) { }
the form of structure
What is a union, and what is a intersection?
Union= the combination of 2 or more sets
intersection= The same elements in 2 or more sets
Symplify this problem
6+2 (10+3)
Answer= 32
What is the order of operation?
PEMDAS
If i have a problem where there is a parenthesis and then a devision and then a addition, in what order do i solve the problem, and why?
12+(10+5) *3 =
( This * means devide)
First parenthesis because thats the first one in Pemdas. then Devision, because thats the next in PemDas, and then after that I go left to right.
what is a integer?
0 natural numbers and its opposites
Only flip the 2ND FRACTION. NEVER FLIP THE FIRST ONE.
What property is this? Solve
3(14) = (14)3
Extra 100 points if you explain why!
Its Communative property!
Why? Because the order is different, the 3 is in different places each time, but you still get the same asnwer.
What is a null set?
A set with no elements in it.
What happens if the answer to a absolute value problem is a negative?
No solution.
Why? The answer can not be a negative
what is a irrational number?
A number that goes on forever WITHOUT a repeating pattern
What is the difference between communitive and associative property?>
Communative property= ( works for mutiplication and devision + 100 points)
The order does not affect the result. (Ex: 3(14) = (14)3. the numbers are written in a different order, but they still have the same answer.
Associative property= (74+99) +1 = 74 + (99+1)
the way the numbers are grouped its different. But you still get the same answer.
Ahead or Behind?
+15 + +36. (Look at the addition or subtraction signs)
50 bonus points if you can say why!
Ahead by 51
Why? both signs are addition. so you just add them together and that is your answer!
What is Non- inclusive? And what is Inclusive?
50 bonus points if you know which circle is open, and which is closed!
Non - inclusive = Doesn't include all numbers
A closed circle
Inclusive= Does include all numbers
A open circle
What is destributive property?
( If you dont know the answer, you can get the explanation, but you lose 50 points)
You have two UNLIKE terms in a parenthesis. (Ex: 4 (X+3). X and three are not like terms, so you cannot add them together. So you take the number outside the ( ) and Distribute it to the X and then the 3. So now you have 4X + 4x3. Answer is, 4X + 12
What is the difference between simplify and solve?
Symplify = the information is there. only make it simpler
Solve= dig for more information before you solve it
what are the rules for adding and subtracting like terms?
when adding and subtracting like terms, you can't add the unlike terms together. (Ex: X+2B you can not add because they are not like terms. When multiplying and deviding, you CAN add not like terms. (Hint) When ADDing and subtracting like terms, you can't ADD like terms together. When Multiplying and deviding you can. (just remember the ADD can't ADD hint and then you will know the other one!)
Symplify! I got a bill for $37 and then a check for $54
( Tip! Read it out loud to yourself! Reallllly helps!)
( Or use the counting steps method)
+17. Because if you look at which number is bigger, +54 is bigger than -37. theres more positive so the answer will be positive!
What is innequality?
The less and greater signs.
GREATER = >
LESS = <
what will you get on our midterm?
100%
