What is an Aerodrome?
A defined path on a land aerodrome established for the taxiing of aircraft and intended to provide a link between one part of the aerodrome and another
What is a Taxiway?
A defined rectangular area, on a land aerodrome selected or prepared for the landing and take-off run of aircraft along its length
What is a Runway?
An aeronautical beacon used to indicate the location of an aerodrome.
What is an Aerodrome Beacon?
A defined area, on a land aerodrome, intended to accommodate aircraft for purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo, refueling, parking or maintenance
What is the Apron?
The designated geographical location of an aerodrome
What is Aerodrome Reference Point?
An area, including a taxiway, is intended to protect an aircraft operating on that taxiway and to reduce the risk of damage to an aircraft accidentally running off the taxiway.
What is the Taxiway Strip?
A defined rectangular braking action area on the ground at the end of take off run available prepared as a suitable area in which an aircraft can be stopped in the case of an abandoned take-off.
What is a Stopway?
A unit established to provide flight information service to aerodrome traffic
What is an Aerodrome Flight Information Service Unit (AFISU)?
A portion of an apron designated as a taxiway and intended to provide access to aircraft stands only
What is an Aircraft Stand Taxilane?
The elevation of the highest point on the landing area
What is Aerodrome Elevation?
A defined area where aircraft may be held or bypassed to allow the efficient movement of aircraft.
What is a Holding Bay?
A defined rectangular area on the ground or water selected or prepared as a suitable area over which an aircraft may make a portion of its initial climb to a specified height
What is a Clearway?
The section of an airport designated for aircraft takeoffs, landings, and taxiing, excluding areas like the apron.
What is the Maneuvering Area?
A designanted area suitable for the parking of an aircraft which is known or suspected to be the subject of unlawful interference or other reason
What is an Isolated Parking Position?
A defined area including the runway and stopway, if provided, intended:
a) To reduce the risk of damage to aircraft running off a runway.
b) To protect aircraft flying over it during take off or landing operations.
What is the Runway Strip?
That part of an aerodrome to be used for the takeoff, landing and taxiing of aircraft, consisting of the maneuvering area and the apron(s)
What is the Movement Area?
Their purpose is to provide a clear and graded area which would reduce the risk of damage to aircraft in the event of an aircraft undershooting or overrunning the runway and facilitate the movement of rescue and firefighting vehicle
What is the RESA? Runway End Safety Area?
An area that extends symmetrically on each side of the runway, that is capable of supporting:
a. an aircraft without the aircraft sustaining any damage in the event of running off the runway, and
b. ground vehicles.
