Caused by scalds, flames, or grease and extends deeper into the dermis with few healthy cells remaining. Blisters do not form as the dead tissue layer is thick
What is deep-partial thickness burn?
Wound closure and patient has achieved highest level of functioning after injury

What is a homograft?
Skin can regenerate if part of this is present
What is the dermis?
Involves entire epidermis and dermis at varying depths and is red, moist and blanches. Blisters form
What is superficial partial-thickness burn?
Begins 36-48 hours after injury, fluid shift has resolved and lasts until wound closure is complete
What is the acute phase?
Normal urine output
What is 0.5 mL/kg/hour?
Surgical incision made in muscle and tissue to prevent compartment syndrome
What is a fasciotomy?
The body cannot control this regulatory function when burned
What is body temperature?
Destruction of entire epidermis and dermis, skin does not regrow. Wounds may be waxy white, deep red, yellow, brown or black. Eschar forms and is a hard, leathery covering that forms coagulated particles of destroyed dermis
What is full thickness burn?
Main electrolyte within the cell and is released with the cell destruction
What is potassium?
Drug not to be used in burns, unless electrical
What are diuretics?
Biologic dressing for burn grown from a small specimen of epidermal cells from and unburned area of the patient’s body
What is cultured skin?
This is determined by surface area burned as well as the depth of burn
What is Severity or degree?
Black in color, skin is covered in hard and inelastic eschar, grafts are required. Edema is absent and pain receptors have been destroyed
What is deep full-thickness burn?
Diuretic stage begins during this time frame after injury
What is 48 -72 hours?
Time to begin countdown for IVF resuscitation within 24 hours
What is the time of injury?
Has a porous dermis made from beef collagen and shark cartilage and a silastic epidermis. Dermis slowly dissolves, and is replaced with blood vessels and connective tissue which support a standard autograph when the silastic epidermis is removed
