How fast does light travel?
Super fast: about 300k km/sec or 180k miles/sec (299,792 km/sec)
Why does light seem to bend?
The speed slows down when it travels from one medium to another
How many colors make up white light?
7 (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet)
How many laws of motion are there?
3 (object at rest or motion stays at rest or motion unless acted on by an outside force, force=mass x acceleration, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction)
This expectation should take place before talking in class?
Raise your hand
Light travels fastest in what medium (substance or space)?
Vacuum (empty space)
Does light bend more in water or gelatin?
Gelatin
Where would you see all 7 colors at once?
A rainbow. It is created by light bending and splitting into colors when it passes through water droplets in the atmosphere.
What law or laws of motion are being used when a baseball has been hit and rolls to a stop? Not including the act of hitting the ball.
First and Third Laws. The ball will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force. The outside force is friction with the ground and possibly friction with grass. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The action is the ball rolling and the opposite reaction is the ground moving, even the slightest, in the opposite direction.
HC 7's Social Skills Specialist?
Ms. Amy
How fast does light travel from the sun to when we can see the light?
8.3 minutes (8 min 20 sec)
What happens to a straw when you put it into water or oil?
Nothing, the straw remains the same.
Think back to the refraction demonstration with the glass of water and arrows. What happened to the arrow when it was placed behind the water?
The image of the arrow reversed.
What are the names of the two main components in the food chain?
Producers (plants) and Consumers (animals that eat the producers and other consumers depending on where they are in the food chain)
What are the things that should be used for 5-10 minutes to help you regulate when needed?
Options (fidgets, color, draw, cards, etc)
Who first tried measuring the speed of light?
Galileo
Why does a straw look bent when looking at it while it is in water or oil?
The light going into the medium slows down and the straw looks bent.
This type of bend means to curve outward, like glasses?
Convex
This is the process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create glucose and oxygen?
Photosynthesis
This coach comes into our class every day for snacks?
Coach Molly
Who actually measured the speed of light?
Ole Roemer (he did this by studying Jupiter's moom, lo)
What is light refraction?
Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one medium (like air) into another medium (like water or glass).
This type of bend curves inward?
Concave
What are the tiny openings in leaves that allow gases to move in and out called?
Stomata
This expectation should happen before leaving your seat?
Raise your hand
