Name three things you should avoid talking about on Open House Day and explain why you shouldn't talk about these topics.
-Your major -Where you lived freshman year -Mardi Gras -Winter Break -How they like New Orleans so far We avoid these topics because we learn nothing about the PNM. Recruitment is values-based and we do not gain any information about her values by learning that she lives in Sharp. Also, the PNMs will be having the same conversation seven other times on OH day and we want to stand out to them. Finally, these topics are not open-ended, and we want our conversations to have a natural flow. It is better to ask questions that yield a story as an answer.

What are three things you can say during PNM review/on your selection form to tell us that a PNM should not/will not go SDT?
-BSE (better suited elsewhere). The PNM would not fit in well with the other girls in our House and would be better off in another chapter. -OP (other preferences). She does not want us. She may have told you, she may have been a brick well, you may know her and know she's a legacy somewhere else, you may know if she has friends in houses, or you may know what house all of her friends want. -I wouldn't want to see her in my letters. This lets us know that maybe she would not represent our House well. -

Name some dos and don'ts of pre-OH Day PNM review (etiquette, comment-making, etc.).
DO: keep your comments to 30 seconds or less, tell us meaningful/helpful information, use appropriate language (BSE, OP, Vanilla, etc.), raise your hand if you have a comment, speak up, pay attention, stay quiet DON'TS: be mean ("ewww" "ugh"--this will result in a fine), tell us how you know a PNM unless it's helpful, use your cell phones, let any of the information leave our House, talk in between PNM slides, speak up for a PNM you don't know (unless we ask "who would like to talk to her?")

What does PCAA do?
Work on the legislative side of child abuse by lobbying, working on policy change. They are dedicated to preventive strategies through advocacy and ensuring there is no need for intervention.

What is the most important section to fill out on the membership selection form/the recruitment submissions form?
"Who should she (the PNM) talk to?" This is so important because we want each PNM to have the best experience possible in our House, which involves talking to sisters she will click with and find meaningful commonalities with.

How do we determine who starts the sing out song for each event?
Whoever is floating/happens to be at the front of the room starts the song. It may feel awkward to start it but it just needs to happen.

Who does JWI help and what is so special about their partnership with SDT?
All women, no matter what religion. Just like SDT, JWI was founded by Jewish women to make sure all women have a safe place. Our partnership is special because they have created programs specific to SDT. The most popular ones are: -OPI Girls Achieve Grapeness -Safe Smart Dating with ZBT

PNM question: "Are you a Jewish sorority?"
-We are historically Jewish. This means SDT was founded by Jewish women as a place for all women who were socially excluded to have a place where they belonged (values that line up with our philanthropies) no matter their religion, ethnicity, etc. We take all girls and give each consideration. -Our national logo is a torch and the flame is made out of stars in different shapes and colors. The top star is a Star of David. This symbolizes that our foundation is Jewish women, however, our organization is made of many diverse and unique women.

What do we look for in a sophomore?
We really only take "outstanding" sophomores! This is because they only have two and a half years in the House so we want them to contribute and get the most out of their experiences. When selecting sophomores, especially ones that a lot of our sisters know, it is important to know the difference between a good friend and a good sister. It might be more convenient for a sophomore you know to be in SDT, but think about if she would take on leadership roles and be an active and contributing member.

What steps can you take as either the person bumping or getting bumped to ensure you have a good transition? (name three)
If you are the one bumping: approach from the front so the sister you're bumping can see you, get to know your bump group If you being bumped: know the sister who is bumping you and if possible, gear the conversation towards something she can relate to, remember your PNM's name so you can introduce her, introduce the person bumping you as "my SISTER _____"

What does it mean to have a values-based recruitment?
We don't judge PNMs, and we don't look at any physical aspects when doing membership selection. We gear conversations towards substantial topics--what they were involved with in high school, what they are looking for in a House and what they want to get out of one, etc. We care about whether the PNM will uphold the values of SDT (compassionate, empowering, kind, etc.) or not rather than how she will contribute to the superficial "reputation" of our House.

What does Women for Women International do?
Work with socially excluded women in eight countries where war and conflict have devastated lives and communities. Women who enroll participate in a one-year program and they learn job skills and receive business training so they can earn a living. We sponsor one woman who is enrolled and offer her financial support.

How do you handle a "brick wall" PNM?
-It is important to try to determine why she is not talking. Does she have OP? Is she rush awkward? On OH day, PNMs might brick wall because their hearts are set on another chapter. However, on the second day, they might not have been invited back so more often than not they will have a reality check and be great. So, if it is the first day, be warm and welcoming and carry the conversation. If it is later on the process and she is outwardly being rude and inattentive, the best thing you can do is try your best to make her experience in SDT positive. If she tells you she wants another chapter, you can say "we still have to talk so let's make it enjoyable." If she is rush awkward, just ask open-ended questions and try to get what you can out of her. Either way, be nice and peppy and friendly and welcoming!

What is the purpose of the little slip of paper you take from the PNM you bring into the House? What can you do with on OH and Philanthropy Day to remember your PNM?
The slips are for the sole purpose of remembering the name of the PNM you brought in, since that is who you fill our membership selection form on. On OH and Philanthropy day (the days we wear jeans), you can put the slip in your right pocket if you think she is right for SDT or left pocket if not.

What are some things Panhel can fine us for during recruitment? (name two)
Taking too long on the porch, going over the event time limit, letting PNMs leave with any items from our House, (having different decorations than what was allowed), stepping on the brick

Name two things that are special about NOCAC?
-Local philanthropy which is so special for Tulane Greek Life -Darkness to Light -Jobs and internships for us -Hats Off event

PNM question: "I'm skeptical about joining and only here because my friends/parents made me. Why should I stick with it?"
The process is scary and nerve-wracking, but not all of us in this House were sure we wanted to join a sorority. But, we stuck with it and now we're all still here. It's important to trust the system and go in with an open mind because there really is so much you can get out of a sorority if you give recruitment a chance. Talk about: -Sisterhood -Social events -Philanthropy, etc.

What is the purpose of doing PNM review and recruitment submissions before it's even Open House Day?
Ideally, we would like to know every single thing about every single girl before she walks into this House so that she can have a great experience and sisters can get to know her on a deeper level. This makes the PNM feel like we genuinely care and want to get to know her beyond surface level, and it helps us learn more about her as a person to determine if she would be a good fit. PNM review specifically is required by National, and we use it to figure out which sisters should talk to which PNMs.

What should you do when it is time for the PNMs to leave an event?
Walk your PNM all the way to the door, sing the sing out song, make sure you take away any cups or napkins your PNM is holding, do NOT say "see you tomorrow"
