How often should a Provider read-aloud to children in care?

At least once a day! Studies show that children who are read to and used to being around books when they are young are likely to become good readers when they get to school.

When a patron utilizing FCC programs has expired paperwork and becomes suspended, can they still attend the program?

No. If something is missing from the paperwork, Parent Central will suspend them (usually after giving them an extension). Once they are suspended in the system, the patron cannot receive care in any CYS program. This includes FCC.

During Family Style Dining, does everyone fix a plate?

Yes. All children and the teacher should fix a plate and be seated at the table during meal service. Teachers should fix a child size portion plate to model proper eating and table manners. Meal service is a time for discussion.

How should books be displayed?

Books should be displayed on a low shelf that children can reach easily. Books for infants, toddlers, twos and preschool children should be displayed in a standing position with the covers facing out.

How should infants be put down to sleep?

Infants should be laid on their backs to sleep in a crib or pack-n-play every single time. It is recommended that infants be put in their cribs when they are drowsy and about to fall asleep so they can learn to soothe themselves.

Can I claim a child with my USDA claim that I do not have a WIC form on?

No, all children (contracted or hourly) should have a WIC form for every provider they attend. WIC forms, as well as all other paperwork, should not be shared.
