Used during Ordinary Time; represents new life in Jesus.

What is the Chalice?
The cross-bearer, candle-bearers, and any other altar servers lead this at the beginning of Mass.
What is the Entrance Procession?
Servers go with the priest or deacon to the bottom of the sanctuary steps during this part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
What is the Preparation of the Gifts?
What is the Liturgy of the Word?
Used during Christmas, Easter, and other special feasts and celebrations; represents purity, joy, and the cleansing of our sins.
What is White?

A server holds the Roman Missal for the priest during this part of the Introductory Rites.

Servers use a paten to catch any crumbs or hosts that may fall during this part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
What is Holy Communion?
The most important part of the Mass where the bread and wine are brought to the altar and consecrated by the priest, and the people receive communion.
What is the Liturgy of the Eucharist?
Used during Advent and Lent; represents anticipation or penance.
What is Violet?
Used to cover the chalice; another type is used at funerals to cover the coffin.
What is a Pall?
Servers should sit and listen attentively to the Scripture during this part of the Liturgy of the Word.
What are the Readings (1st Reading, Psalm, 2nd Reading)?
Servers place items such as the chalice on the altar during this part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
What is the Preparation of the Altar?
The first, or opening, part of the Mass.
What are the Introductory Rites?
Used only on certain celebrations or feasts such as Pentecost and Palm Sunday. Represents the fire of the Holy Spirit or the blood of martyrs.
What is Red?

What is the Gospel?
A server holds the Roman Missal for the priest during this time at the end of the Liturgy of the Eucharist and during the Concluding Rites.

The final part of the Mass where the priest gives a blessing to the people.
What are the Concluding Rites?
Used only twice during the year, once in Advent and once in Lent; represents joy.
What is Rose?
Used by the priest to bless people or items with holy water.
What is the Aspergillum?
A server holds a binder for the priest and deacon during this part of the Liturgy of the Word.
What are the Prayers of the Faithful (or intercessions or Universal Prayer)?
A server rings the altar bells with one, short ring at this time of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
