What's the name of the liturgical season that has two parts and "bridges" the other liturgical seasons. It's the longest season of the Church's liturgical year.
Ordinary time
Early Christians in Rome, threatened with death for practicing their faith, celebrated Mass in the catacombs. What are the catacombs? Why were they considered "safe"?
- Underground, manmade tunnels or caverns found in Ancient Rome. They were created as burial places for the dead. Christians would hide, pray, and even celebrate Mass there.
- Safe because Roman soldiers feared there were spirits lurking inside and were afraid to enter
Back in Chapter 2, there was a story of a man who stayed home from Christmas Eve mass. A flock of birds was huddled in the snow and he wanted to get them into his barn for warmth. What did the man really want to happen in order for the birds to hear him and understand? How does he relate to God in this story?
He wished he could become a bird, mingle with them and speak their language. Then he could tell them not to be afraid. He could show them the way to the barn. But he would have to BE one of them so they could see and hear and understand. This is how God felt before he sent Jesus to Earth.
