Occurred in 1969. NYC police raid Stonewall gay bar but people refuse to cooperate, so police locked themselves in while protesters were outside. The club opened the next night, protesters were met with police violence.

1957. A broad civil rights law to allow for federal enforcement in dismanteling Jim Crow. Creates Civil Rights division of the DoJ; creates Civil Rights Comission. Not great though because local jury amendment and no suits initiated by DoJ.

1965. Enforcement of the 15th amendment, eliminated poll taxes and literacy tests. 6 states with history of discrimination needed federal approval on electoral plans. Happened because of Bloody Sunday at Selma Campaign
