Africans sold other Africans as slaves to European traders. These slaves were sold in the Americas in exchange for items produced there such as wood, gunpowder, and tools. 

When the slaves had children, their children were also made to be slaves.

In the United States, the Great Depression began in 1929 and ended at the beginning of WW2 (1941).

Why did we look at the picture of the iceberg when we were discuss the question What is culture?

We looked at the iceberg to understand that culture are behaviors and beliefs. Culture is made up of the things you see and hear and smell (clothes and language and food), but also the things you cannot see (people's attitudes and how they have relationships or their values).

What was the Boston Massacre?

The Boston Massacre is the name for an event. In 1770, in the city of Boston, English soldiers shot and killed five people who were protesting the English rule.

Explain the concepts Melting Pot and Salad Bowl.

The term melting pot describes how people in a culture become similar to each other by speaking a single language, sharing holidays, wearing the same clothing styles, and eating similar foods. 

The term salad bowl describes how people in a culture can remain different from each other by continuing to keep the traditions of their old culture: speaking their native language, celebrating the native holidays, wearing their people's traditional clothes, or eating traditional dishes.

American fought the Civil War because the southern states wanted to separate from the USA to become their own country. America also fought the war to decide what the future of America would look like: Would their be slavery or no?

How did WW2 help the Great Depression to end?

When the United States began preparing for WW2 they needed to build equipment and produce supplies. The factories became busy producing goods, so many people had jobs. Men enlisted in the army. The army provided thousands of men and women jobs and salaries. People had opportunities to get money and reasons to use their money again.
