Identify two Enlightenment ideas and explain their relationship to the ideas expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
Natural Rights (EI)=>"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" (DoI)
• Thomas Jefferson used the idea of natural rights from the Enlightenment when describing unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence, such as, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
• Enlightenment stated if the government doesn’t protect the rights of the people, the people can get rid of it. As a result, colonists could break away from Great Britain.
• The Enlightenment supported people having a social contract with their government and the king should protect their natural/unalienable rights. The Declaration of Independence said the king was not protecting their rights.
